A sci-fi comedy from director Jeff Lieberman (BLUE SUNSHINE, SQUIRM), REMOTE CONTROL puts the heyday of video stores on stylish display, with a cast of eccentric characters including the amazingly coiffed Jennifer Tilly. Hypnotized by the new display for mysterious movie “Remote Control”, the patrons of a video store fight to rent the VHS tapes. What seems like a corny 50s sci-fi movie turns out to be a brainwashing mechanism, sending its viewers on a murder rampage for anyone who is nearby. Cosmo (Kevin Dillon), the video store clerk observing the madness, gets the sense that something sinister is lurking in these tapes. Capturing the glory of the era of VHS, REMOTE CONTROL is a loving send up of old sci-fi, and people’s attachment to a new, shiny fad. It is begging for a reboot in these times of “instant watch”, but for now we’re happy to revisit the days of browsing tapes and pleas to be kind, rewind.
